ACCESS Program

A
cademic Coaching Combined with Enriched Student Support

Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.  Psalm 139: 14

At Dominion Christian we recognize that God has given us all unique personalities, abilities, and talents. Not all students learn and process information the same way.

We are here to help students recognize their strengths and weaknesses and develop the strategies and skills needed to meet the expectations of the school, their families, and themselves. We want families to have ACCESS to a quality private Christian education by providing resources to accommodate different types of learning styles.

What is Academic Coaching?

Our ACCESS program provides an Academic Coaching class. This class is a guided study hall time where students work on time management, organization, and study skills as well as have the opportunity to utilize their extended time on tests or work on homework with teacher assistance.

The ACCESS Center will be available to students who receive accommodations.  This center provides a quiet, structured space for students to complete assignments, get support, and utilize extended time on assessments if needed.   Our small group content classes for math and ELA will be taught in our ACCESS center.

Student Support Plan

The ACCESS Student Support Plan is created by Dominion Christian School based on the comprehensive evaluation of all records at time of admission. The plan will outline the specific accommodations and services that DCS will provide to help the students achieve their fullest potential. The document will be signed by the parent/guardian. Students will be evaluated every 6 weeks to ensure they are following the plan.

Georgia Special Needs Scholarship (GSNS)

The Georgia Special Needs Scholarship (GSNS) Program is a school choice program available for special needs students attending Georgia public schools who are served under an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504.
If a student meets the eligibility criteria, a parent/guardian has the right to request a transfer from a student’s current public school to a private school in Georgia. These scholarships provide funding that can be used to offset tuition costs at participating private schools in the state of Georgia. Eligibility will be determined by using the scholarship calculator on the GSNS website. For more information on the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship and the parent application process, please visit the Georgia Department of Education’s website.

Dominion offers learning support through the ACCESS program, but we do not have the resources to support students who have significant emotional, social, or behavioral concerns.  Admission to Dominion is based upon students’ past academic achievement, current academic goals, and educational psychological evaluation/diagnostic, as well as teacher and counselor recommendations. Students in the ACCESS program will have academic progress assessed each 6 weeks.
